| Painting laminated kitchen cabinets. |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|09:18 am] |
I am in need of some help with my very old and dated kitchen! I purchased this apartment in October 2008 and with paying the mortgage and bills etc I am in need of a cheap DIY solution to spruce it up until I can afford my huge kitchen renovation! (which I am slowly saving for at the moment)
The cabinets are a cheap particleboard that are covered in a fake wood veneer sticker of some sort (it is truly disgusting) I am wondering if I can paint over these cabinets? I have read a few DIY articles and they are all quite conflicting. Most of them say I can clean the veneer then sand it to make it a rough finish so the paint will hold better. Some say don't attempt it at all!
I am not looking at a forever solution, just something that will jazz up my kitchen for the next 2-4 years as I have to renovate my bathroom before I even go near the kitchen!
Has anyone attempted to paint veneer? I'd love to hear your experiences.
Also I am thinking just a white colour will do for the cabinets, I don't particularly want to match the green tiles and the area is quite dark (I hate opening the window curtain as it looks onto a stairwell/brick wall) and I feel white will brighten it up a bit.

| 10.10.09 Abandoned school "Autumn"... |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|01:23 am] |
Here has visited one more thrown school. Certainly some can not like a state, in comparison with last is worse... But also in this there is a snap. Any autumn spirit when you look out of a beaten window and you see orange-red trees and when so the sun beautifully sits down... Much all school, any figures, posters, a heap of school desks, chairs, sports hall and many other things in this report.

These are just a few of some pictures I took around the fields close my house, the first above is of the Snowdonia mountains (Welsh: Eryri pronounced 'EGH-RU-RI) in a field at a time when we were lucky enough to get some snow fall. The rest are from late summer and taken in Lover's field (Welsh: Cae Cariad pronouced 'KAI KA-RI-ADD') which is a field just further up from this first photo.

Smoke free for: 119 days, 4 hours, 47 minutes and 14 seconds Cigarettes NOT smoked: 1788 Lifetime Saved: 13 days, 15 hours Money Saved: $464.10
So I totally cheated and had one yesterday, and one last Friday. Maybe this sounds like justification, but a few a month is better than 10 a day.
Since I totally associate museums with smoking and smokers, I'm highly amused by today's quit tip:
Go To The Museum Museums are great places in which to get away from the daily stresses of life. Many of them offer free admission on certain days. Look at paintings, sculptures, and other works of art, old and new, from around the world. Museums are quiet, there's no smoking, and there's a lot to explore. Sit or stand across from a piece of art that affects in you some way. You can experience pleasure and relaxation in many ways without smoking. |

I'm looking into moving some of my accounts to a local credit union - any recommendations? Bonus points for DT Minneapolis or NW Metro locations. |

| Looking for computer software for making cross stitch patterns |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|09:11 am] |
Hello! I looked through the user info links and tried a journal search and didn't find anything, so here's hoping my journal search-fu isn't failing. I searched 'stitch computer program' 'stitch computer software' 'cross stitch computer' and the names of a few programs I'm thinking of buying, and it found nothing for any of them.
I'm currently making my own cross stitch patterns via photoshop, but it's rather time-consuming to make a really useable pattern. I've been looking into a good automatic cross stitch pattern making program. Unfortunately, most of the ones I find the free trial download either flat out doesn't work, or when I get it, it's not particularly good. I've noticed a real problem translating black in most programs I've tried- they try to make it dark green, or dark blue, so if you've already got that color in your image you can't tell what is supposed to be black and what isn't. Or else they make it far too pixelly, and there's no way you could tell what the original image was supposed to be.
So I'd like to know what people are using, how happy they are with it, and what some of the shortcomings are. I'm hoping not to spend more than 60, unless the best-best-everyone-loves program is more than that. I don't do machine embroidery, so I don't need a program that is capable of converting to machine embroidery patterns.
I've running on 32bit Windows Vista, but I'm upgrading to Windows 7 relatively soon. I'm finding most cross stitch making programs were last updated for XP, and then abandoned by their creators.
Thanks! I'm going to cross-post this to stitchers as well. |
